In a recent study involving over 260,000 men, those using Viagra were 18% less likely to develop a dementia-linked condition. However, further research is required to confirm the causal relationship between the drugs and this effect.

Additionally, two new drugs for Alzheimer's have displayed significant potential in slowing the progression of the disease during its initial phases. These medications target a substance called beta amyloid, which accumulates in the brains of individuals with Alzheimer's.

According to the World Health Organization, Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, and may cause 60 to 70% of cases. While there is no cure, prompt diagnosis of the condition can make it more manageable, especially in its early stages. Indeed, much can be offered to support and improve the lives of people living with Alzheimer's and their carers and families.
