A remake of 1980 comedy ‘9 to 5’, starring Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda, is being produced by 20th Century Fox. BBC News reports that the film is in “early stages”. ‘9 to 5’ follows three female employees of a sexist and bigoted boss. The women scheme to get their own back on their superior. As noted by BBC News, the film’s remake will also focus on three young women, this time dealing with workplace harassment and sexism. Writer and actress Rashida Jones has been tapped to write (and potentially star) in the film.

‘9 to 5’ was a hit when it first hit cinemas, grossing $100 million oN a $10 million budget. Revamping the film to focus on relevant news and pop culture could be a smart move for 20th Century Fox. The film was also adapted into a musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. The production hit Broadway in 2009 and was recently performed at London Fringe.
