Two members of the punk protest group Pussy Riot “disappeared” on the morning of February 27, before being found again. The group’s official Twitter account posted the announcement. A post read “Two Pussy Riot members are missing. Olya Borisova & Sasha Sofeev disappeared in Crimea yesterday”. The tweet also described some important details, writing that the “[The Federal Security Service] detained them several times”. The tweet alleges that police broke their phones and computers yesterday. “We don’t know what has happened to them”, the tweet concluded. Just two and a half hours later, Pussy Riot shared another tweet, saying “we found them”. They explained that the duo were detained but are safe now.

Pussy Riot is an extremely controversial band in Russia. They rose to fame in 2012, when they staged a performance Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. They were interrupted and two members, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, were charged. A third member, Yekaterina Samutsevich, was also arrested. Since then, the band has been embroiled in legal battles with the Russian government.
