MUSIC Publicity stunt
When it comes to selling records, weird promotion works. Publicity stunts and peculiar press runs have been around since the business started. Look at Kanye West. The rap star just flew out the world’s press to a ski resort in Wyoming. There, he previewed his new album ‘Ye’, which will likely top the UK albums chart.
Now, it seems that The 1975 have started their weird and wonderful album rollout. Turns out, if you type “the1975..com” into Google apps, there are some strange results. The app displays your own text SMS messages as search results, talk about invasive! The trick only works for Google apps on Android devices.
“For some unexplained reason when I type in “the1975..com” (specifically with two periods) into my search bar on the default pixel launcher it displays my recent text messages through Google”, wrote user Krizastro. “It’s like just about the weirdest glitch I have come by”, they noted.

Many users think this is a cunning promotion tactic. The 1975 have already released a new single, ‘Give Yourself A Try’. They also new album ‘A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships’, due out later this year on Polydor.
