TRAVEL Hotel

Most decent hotels look pretty acceptable at first glance, but looks can sometimes be deceiving. That’s why you should always check the following bits and pieces in your hotel room as soon as you check in, to avoid these potential mishaps.

Bedbugs
We usually only find out that we have bed bugs when it’s too late and we’re already covered in ugly bites. Preventing issues is better than solving them afterwards, so don’t tempt fate. Instead, make sure to look into all the nooks and crannies of your mattress and bedding. If you find bed bugs or their droppings, it’s time to have a word with the hotel staff. Keep in mind that bed bugs can appear in any hotel, no matter how luxurious it may be. This is because other guests can unknowingly bring them in and they are notoriously difficult to get rid of.

TV remote
Even though the cleaners may be excellent at their job, it is still possible for them to miss some of the most commonly overlooked places. For instance, think of the TV remote. Everyone touches it, but nobody cleans it unless there’s visible dirt. Bring along cleaning equipment of your choice to disinfect the TV remote along with any other loose objects you could end up touching.

Minibar
Do you always avoid the minibar when you’re travelling on a budget? Even if you don’t plan to buy anything, it’s important to check if the minibar has been filled. That way you’ll never up being the ‘fall guy’ for someone else’s midnight snacking sprees. Just give a heads up to the staff if it turns out to be empty and you should be all set.
