Ben Johnson - Canadian Ben Johnson won the gold medal in the 100 meters and also broke the world record at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

Andreea Raducan - In the year 2000, at the Olympic Games in Sydney, the 16-year-old Romanian gymnast won several gold medals in different events.

Andreea Raducan - However, an anti-doping test showed positive results for pseudoephedrine, and she was stripped of her medals. Despite the substance having been found in a cough medicine that the gymnast was taking, Raducan didn't get her medals back.

Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding - The two Americans competed fiercely in ice skating. Both wanted to secure a spot on the team that would represent the United States at the 1994 Winter Olympics.

Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding - In 1994 Kerrigan was assaulted by an unknown assailant. It was discovered that the attack had been planned by Harding's ex-husband. Tonya Harding was banned from the sport forever.

Pommel horse's height - Several gymnasts struggled to jump on the pommel horse at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Pommel horse's height - It was later discovered that the horse was not the correct height and that it was too low. Many of the athletes who had been eliminated were able to return to the competition.

Jim Thorpe - In order to be able to take part in the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, it was mandatory for athletes to be amateurs. The American Jim Thorpe participated in the games and won gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon.

Jim Thorpe - Later it was discovered that Thorpe had already played baseball professionally and he was stripped of his medals. However, years later the International Olympic Committee returned the medals to Thorpe.

Soviet Union boycott - In 1984 the Soviet Union boycotted the Olympic Games that were taking place in Los Angeles. The Soviets claimed that they did so for the sake of security, though it seems more like the decision was revenge for the 1980 US boycott.

Marion Jones - The American athlete took five medals home, including three gold medals, in the 2000 Olympic Games.

Marion Jones - However, in 2007 Jones confessed that she resorted to banned substances during the preparation for the games. Jones was stripped of her medals.

Marie-Reine Le Gougne - At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, there was a very balanced duel in figure skating between the Canadian duo and the Russian duo, who eventually won the gold medal.

Marie-Reine Le Gougne - After the competition, French Judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne confessed that she had been pressured by the head of her organization to vote for the Russian duo. Gold medals were then given to both pairs.

US boycott - In 1980 US President Jimmy Carter announced that US athletes would not participate in the Olympic Games that would take place that year in Moscow.

US boycott - The United States took this position because the military forces of the Soviet Union had invaded Afghanistan. Canada, Japan, and West Germany also boycotted the games. This was the only time the United States boycotted the Olympic Games.

Dong Fangxiao - There were doubts about the ages of the Chinese gymnasts at Sydney 2000.

Dong Fangxiao - The female athletes had to be at least 16 years old and it was discovered that the Chinese athlete Dong Fangxiao was only 14.

Russia doping scandal - Before the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the International Olympic Committee decided to test all Russian athletes wishing to take part in the competition, due to several rumors that they were doping.

Russia doping scandal - As a result, 271 Russian athletes were allowed to participate in the Rio Olympics and 116 were banned from the competition.

Disqualified badminton players - Eight badminton players were disqualified for throwing matches during the London 2012 games.
