Victoria's Secret model turned activist Karlie Kloss has built a nonprofit around giving technical coding training to young girls around the US. Recently, Kode with Klossy expanded its efforts by adding classes and resources to teach 1,000 more girls.
The 25-year-old model was inspired to start the nonprofit after she herself took a computer science class in 2015. "I initially took a coding class because I wanted to understand what this language I kept hearing about was," Kloss told Mashable. "I realized coding is amazing and thought, 'How did I not have access to these skills sooner?'" she said.
Kode With Klossy is currently a summer camp program where attendees learn various "tracks," including back-end and front-end development. They focus on the fundamentals of programming languages such as HTML, CSS, Ruby, and Javascript.
Applications for the 2018 two week camps open to the public this week at KodeWithKlossy.com. The deadline for submission is April 15. You can also nominate girls for the program here.
