CELEBRITY Mike MacDonald
Tributes are pouring in for Canadian comic Mike MacDonald, who passed away on March 17 from heart complications. The Ottawa-born comedian was 63.
Tom Green: “Sad to hear of the passing of Mike Macdonald. One of the greats of stand up comedy, a Canadian from my hometown of Ottawa, and a friend. Rest in Peace Mike. Say hello to Carlin and Pryor for us. I'm sure you are already making them laugh up there.”
Norm Macdonald: “I just heard Mike MacDonald is dead. My first reaction: Mike MacDonald is not dead.”
Caroline Rhea: “Mike was truly funny as they come. We worked together many times. Huge, uncontrollable laughs from every audience. Funny to the bone and he battled so much to stay alive. Look up his stuff on YouTube or his numerous specials. Terrible loss for us all.”
Tommy Chong: “You were one funny dude. You inspired me with your incredible coolness.”
Bruce McCulloch: “You thought you were funny [until] he walked on stage. [Godspeed] my hero of the lonely pursuit, perhaps the best stand up who ever was....”
Mark McKinney: “This is sad news. Truly one of the greats.”
Brent Butt: “Mike MacDonald has passed away. I can't wrap my head around it. Part of me wants to yell IT'S NOT TRUE!!! The rest of me is numb. Spent so many nights (late 80s/early 90s) into the morning, playing cards & laughing ourselves sick. And fighting. Then laughing more.”
Mark Critch: “What a loss. I was lucky to have performed with Mike several times. I loved watching him from the wings. Can’t believe he finally got the light. I remember watching @justforlaughs as a teen & thinking you could get no better. I was right.”
Ryan Belleville: “Mike MacDonald was a legend. His comedy hit hard, and with the beauty of a true artist. The world less funny without him.”
Daryn Jones: “Spend the day watching Mike’s work. The original.”
