2018 inductees: Barenaked Ladies - The legendary quirky chart-topping band formed three decades ago in Scarborough, Ontario. In those thirty years, the band's style has gone through many evolutions, incorporating pop, rock, and rap, and selling over 15 million albums along the way.

Barenaked Ladies and Steven Page - Page left the band nearly a decade ago, but as a co-founder and member during their most influential years, he will also be inducted into the hall. The original band will re-group for one night to perform at the Juno Awards this year.

Barenaked Ladies - The band's first tape—'The Yellow Tape' (1991)—was intended as a demo, but ended up becoming their first full commercial release as well as the first-ever independent release to achieve platinum status in Canada.

'The Yellow Tape' - The band spent less than $3,000 to make it, and initially tried to sell the tapes off the stage. It was refused by every label they sent it to, but word of mouth quickly created a demand in record stores.

Canadian legends - Before becoming famous internationally, the band gained a Canadian cult following, particularly after their 1992 release of the album 'Gordon' which became a cultural phenomenon. Hits from this album include 'If I Had $1,000,000' and 'Brian Wilson.' The record was certified diamond (they sold more than one million records).

1,000,000 flavours - Barenaked Ladies are the first Canadian band to receive their own ice cream flavour with Ben & Jerry's. The mix of vanilla and chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cups, chocolate-coated almonds and toffee chunks, and white chocolate chips was named 'If I Had 1,000,000 Flavours.'

The rest of the world caught on - Barenaked Ladies' most commercially successful record is 'Stunt' (1998), which featured 'One Week,' the smash hit that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains the band's most successful single.

Barenaked Ladies: live! - The band is famous for its energetic performances that feature comedic banter and free-style rapping. The style grew out of their tendency to miss rehearsals and consequently improvise during sets.

Adding this honour to their collection - The group has been nominated for 18 Juno Awards, of which it won eight. They have won two Billboard Music Awards, and they've also been nominated for two Grammy Awards.

Long Juno History - Their first Juno Award was for Group of the Year in 1993. The band hosted the Awards in 2002, and this year they'll be celebrating their CMHF induction by performing for the very same Canadians that saw them through their first successes. Sarah McLachlan (2017) - This multi-platinum singer-songwriter was discovered at the age of 17, and has since won countless awards, sold over 40 million albums, performed at every huge event, and was inducted into the CMHF just last year—all of which almost makes you forget the sad animal cruelty commercials that nearly sullied her song 'Angel.'

Burton Cummings (2016) - Cummings was the lead singer and keyboardist for the Winnipeg-based band The Guess Who. He continued a long and fruitful solo career, for which he was appointed to the Order of Manitoba and given a star on Canada's Walk of Fame. He was inducted in 2016 and he still rocks live shows!

Alanis Morissette (2015) - 'Ironic,' 'Hand in My Pocket,' 'You Oughta Know,' 'Head Over Feet'... need we say more? Morissette is a powerful female icon, mother, actor, activist, writer, podcaster, and recipient of countless awards.

Bachman-Turner Overdrive (2014) - Another former member of The Guess Who, Randy Bachman teamed up with Fred Turner. Bachman-Turner Overdrive was inducted into the CMHF in 2014 by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.

k.d. lang (2013) - The pop and country singer-songwriter from Edmonton has garnered four Grammys, eight Juno Awards, and been appointed to the Order of Canada. The 2013 CMHF inductee is still far from done!

Blue Rodeo (2012) - The prolific country-rock band formed in 1982 in Toronto and if you needed any proof of their influence in Canada, they've been named Band of the Year five times at the Junos.

Shania Twain (2011) - The top-selling female artist in country music history, the highest grossing touring artist, an Officer of the Order of Canada, and a woman who most certainly feels like a woman.

April Wine (2010) - This Montreal-based rock band dominated Canadian radio in the '70s and '80s, and you might know them by their best-selling Canadian single 'You Won't Dance With Me.'

Loverboy (2009) - The rock band defined the '80s party rock era with hit singles like 'Working for the Weekend,' which has become an arena rock staple that has been featured in numerous films, TV shows, video games, and commercials.

Triumph (2008) - Another champion of arena rock, the trio was inducted in 2008. They've come a long way since their first show at Toronto's Simcoe High School in 1975.

Bob Rock (2007) - It's all in the name! Bob Rock has been a fixture in the Canadian music industry, having produced and engineered albums for everyone from Aerosmith and Bon Jovi to Cher and Nelly Furtado.

Bryan Adams (2006) - He started his musical career at the ripe age of 16 and has since become a rock icon, activist, photographer, and household name in Canada. Coldplay inducted this Officer of the Order of Canada into the CMHF in 2006.

The Tragically Hip (2005) - One of the least surprising entries on this list, The Hip has even had a Canadian stamp created to honour their incredible and prolific influence over the years. Their tear-jerking final performance in 2016 in Kingston, Ontario, will be remembered by the entire country for its epic close to an even more epic career.

Bob Ezrin (2004) - If you liked Pink Floyd's 'The Wall,' Alice Cooper's 'Billion Dollar Babies,' or KISS's 'Destroyer,' you can thank Bob Ezrin, Toronto's super-producer behind countless hits.

Tom Cochrane (2003) - Commonly known as the front-man of the rock band Red Rider, Cochrane's career started in pubs and coffeehouses in Ontario and grew to immense proportions. He has earned eight Juno Awards, an honorary doctorate, and the title Officer of the Order of Canada. He was right when he sang 'Life is a Highway.'

Bruce Cockburn (2001) - The folk-rocker imbued his musical career with an unwavering social and political awareness that he manifested in countless forms of activism, so it's only appropriate that he was inducted into the CMHF by folk legend Gordon Lightfoot and environmental activist David Suzuki.

Daniel Lanois (2001) - From creating his first makeshift studio in his basement at 17, to producing music for artists including Brian Eno, U2, and The Killers, Lanois has been a true display of drive and ambition in the Canadian music scene.

Bruce Fairbairn (2000) - A long-time producer behind Aerosmith and Bon Jovi, Fairbairn was loved and revered for his vision and his in-studio manner, so when he suddenly passed in 1999, his friends and admirers rallied to posthumously place him in the CMHF.

Luc Plamondon (1999) - This French-Canadian lyricist and music executive is most famous for writing songs for superstar Céline Dion. His tireless work for other artists, musicals, and rock operas has earned him several honours including being named Knight of the National Order of Quebec and Officer of the Order of Canada.

David Foster (1998) - One of the most famous record producers, composers, songwriters, and arrangers in the music world, Foster is behind countless hits, including Whitney Houston's number one smash hit 'I Will Always Love You.' He has worked with artists including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Toni Braxton, Diana Krall, Mary J. Blige, and Mariah Carey.

Morris (Moe) Koffman (1997) - Koffman is one of Canada's most celebrated multi-instrumental jazz pioneers, though he's most famous for his incredible talent on the flute. He also has more than 30 albums to his name, so it's safe to say he does what he loves.

Gil Evans (1997) - 1997 was a big year for the CMHF, which received four inductees. Evans was another well-known jazz artist who passed in 1988, but whose legacy, particularly in helping Miles Davis launch the 'cool jazz' movement, lived on.

Lenny Breau (1997) - Though he was born in the States, Breau is a Canadian guitar icon whose idol, Chet Atkins, eventually even idolized him. Breau was inducted posthumously, years after he was found murdered in his rooftop swimming pool.

Maynard Ferguson (1997) - Also known as 'King of the High C,' this violin-prodigy-turned-legendary-jazz-trumpeter was one of the few musicians to emerge from the Big Band era and embrace modern jazz. He performed all the way up to the year of his death.

Rob McConnell (1997) - The trombonist, composer, arranger, and bandleader was almost lost to a life of financial brokerage before he quit and decided to pursue music full-time—looks like it paid off!

David Clayton-Thomas (1996) - The lead singer of Blood Sweat & Tears began his musical journey as a homeless teenager who starting playing with a guitar left behind by a former inmate when he was in jail. Now he's recognized as one of the greatest vocalists of his generation.

Denny Doherty (1996) - 1996 was another big year, with six inductees including this Maritimer who is well-known for being a founding member of the iconic '60s folk group The Mamas & the Papas.

Domenic Troiano (1996) - Another former member of The Guess Who can be found in the CMHF, this time in the form of a guitarist whose influential style borrowed from many genres. Before 'Toronto sound' meant R&B that sounded like Drake, it was shaped by artists like Troiano.

John Kay (1996) - Kay is best known as the front-man of Steppenwolf—the band behind the scorching metal rock anthem 'Born to be Wild,' which was immortalized in the film 'Easy Rider.' He's also a philanthropist who started his own foundation to protect wildlife… born to be [a protector of the] wild? Close enough.

Zal Yanovsky (1996) - After working with fellow CMHF inductee Denny Doherty in the Halifax Three, this self-taught musician went on to from Lovin' Spoonful, the '60s rock band who gave the world 'Do You Believe In Magic' and 'Summer in the City.' Yanovsky, pictured on the right, later became a chef and restaurateur.

Buffy Sainte-Marie (1995) - This singer-songwriter, composer, visual artist, educator, and social activist is part of Canada's Plains Cree First Nation tribe and has and seamlessly woven art and activism into her long career. Her song 'Universal Soldier' was adopted as an anthem for the anti-Vietnam War movement.

Rush (1994) - This Toronto-based band first showed the world their progressive and challenging sound with the single 'Working Man,' and they now place third worldwide in the number of consecutive gold or platinum albums by a rock band, behind only The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Anne Murray (1993) - Murray is a pop-country singer, and as the first Canadian female solo singer to reach the top spot on U.S. charts, she is often cited as the woman who paved the way for artists like Shania Twain and k.d. lang.

Ian & Sylvia (1992) - Sylvia Fricker and Ian Tyson's folk-rock career was as short and sweet as their marriage, producing hits like 'Four Strong Winds.' The song was Ian's first attempt at songwriting and would later be declared the greatest Canadian song of all time by CBC-Radio.

Leonard Cohen (1991) - Whether you think he was more of a poet, a novelist, a singer-songwriter, or a Buddhist monk, Leonard Cohen is legendary. It seems he won every award there is, but more importantly, he coaxed out the soft underbelly of an increasingly hardening world.

Maureen Forrester (1990) - The Montreal-native worked as a secretary at Bell Telephone before using her operatic contralto voice to become one of Canada's earliest divas.

The Band (1989) - These roots-rock pioneers have inspired the likes of Blue Rodeo and Wilco. They famously toured with Bob Dylan and recorded as his backup band on 'Planet Waves' and on 'The Basement Tapes.' They were also the first North American band to ever appear on the cover of Time magazine.

The Guess Who (1987) - The Winnipeg band is cited as the greatest band in Canadian history, giving us hits like 'These Eyes' and 'American Woman' and setting new records for Canadians around the world, like being the first Canadian band to top the American Hot 100 chart.

Gordon Lightfoot (1986) - One of the most influential voices in Canadian history, who helped define the essence of folk music, Lightfoot's songs have been covered by artists including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Sarah McLachlan, and Eric Clapton. He's still performing, too!

Wilf Carter (1985) - Widely regarded as the father of Canadian country music, this Nova Scotian has recorded more than 40 original and compilation LPs and has been praised by the likes of Hank Snow and Johnny Cash.

The Diamonds, The Crew-Cuts, The Four Lads (1984) - Canadian vocal groups dominated the music charts in the 1950s and three of them, all from Toronto, were inducted in 1984. They produced hits like 'Little Darlin,' 'Sh-boom,' and 'Moments to Remember,' ultimately paving the path for rock and roll in North America.

Glenn Gould (1983) - Gould is one of the most-famous and celebrated classical pianists of the 20th century. While most teenagers were making poor decisions, at age 15 Gould was a professional concert pianist. He's also widely known for his radio and television work in Toronto.

Neil Young (1982) - Neil Young has an unmistakable sound and honesty to his music. He has rightfully become a gigantic figure in the international music scene with 35 studio albums to his name and fresh tours being announced every year. Fun fact: Rolling Stone magazine once included five of Young's albums in its list of 500 greatest albums of all time.

Joni Mitchell (1981) - No singer-songwriter compares to Joni Mitchell, the queen of heart-wrenching ballads and Canadian folk music.

Paul Anka (1980) - An early teen idol of pop music, Paul Anka regularly topped charts and created timeless hits like 'My Way' and '(You're) Having My Baby.' Anka also co-wrote Michael Jackson's posthumous 2009 hit 'This Is It,' as well as Tom Jones's 'She's a Lady.'

Hank Snow (1979) - One of Canada's earliest celebrated country music artists, Snow's career spanned more than 50 years—covering the entire transition from vinyl records to CDs. He recorded 140 albums and landed more than 85 singles on the Billboard country charts.

Guy Lombardo (1978) - This bandleader and violinist from London, Ontario, founded the Royal Canadians with his brothers in 1924. They accurately billed themselves as creating "the sweetest music this side of Heaven."

Oscar Peterson (1978) - Commonly known as the 'Maharaja of the Keyboard,' this legendary jazz pianist worked with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Dizzy Gillespie. Before passing in 2007, he had accrued 10 honourary university doctorate degrees!
