In a recent interview with W Magazine, Banks opened up about how before the fame and glamour, she was her own hair and makeup team because no one else knew how to handle natural hair. As the first black model to walk the Victoria's Secret runway, she also had to stand up for herself and demand equal treatment.
"I stopped silently suffering. And I do have to take my hat off to Victoria’s Secret because that was the last time I ever had to do that—I talked to them and said, 'Look, my hair is different, I need somebody who can do my hair.' After that, they hired people who could do my hair for 10 years," Banks said.
As a fierce advocate and role model for future models of color, Banks helped create an atmosphere of diversity for Victoria's Secret and the fashion industry as a whole.
