Kendrick Lamar has made history as the first musical artist to win a Pulitzer Prize that wasn't in the classical or jazz genres. The rapper won the award for his fourth album, 'DAMN,' which is his most recent work.
The Pulitzer Prize board members described Lamar's album as a “virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African American life.”
Fellow performers, other celebrities, and fans of the artist took to Twitter to praise Lamar and note this momentous occasion.
This stand-up comedian believed the award was well deserved:
