CELEBRITY Interview

Nardwuar—who legally changed his name from John Ruskin—is an interviewer and musician from Vancouver who maintains a legacy of strange outfit choices and even stranger interview tactics.

He starts every interview by first asking two questions: "Who are you?" and "From?" Then, as a result of borderline creepy research, he'll bring up intimate or little known information by way of gifts or straight questions, often either confusing, shocking, or impressing his interviewee. Drake, Pharrell, and Ludacris are just a few of the big names he impressed with his ability to find rare old vinyl records, their first tracks, or strange information about high school friends. His eccentric style has, however, been the cause of some threats—it comes with the job?

He's also known to end every interview with either "Keep on rockin' in the free world," and "Doot doola, doo doo," which is usually answered with "Doot doo!" by his guest.

Just recently it seemed that Nardwuar’s weirdness may have met its match. His interview with quirky rapper Cardi B at Coachella is wildly entertaining. He presented her with everything from a 'Junie B. Jones' novel to a 'Voices of History' record and a book about a strip club, all of which seemed to bring out exactly the information he wanted. But when he delivered his famous "Doot doola, doo doo," Cardi B replied with a strangely transposed, "Doot doota loot doo doo, doo doo... yeah!" The two then froze in place for a hilariously awkward amount of time. It's worth a watch!
