Naomi Campbell has voiced her support for Noura Hussein, a Sudanese woman who was sentenced to death earlier this year. Hussein was sentenced on May 10 after killing her husband, who raped her. The trial and ruling have led to controversy worldwide, with many criticising the sentence. Amnesty International called Noura’s sentence “an intolerable act of cruelty”. The #JusticeForNoura hashtag has been used to raise awareness on social media.

Campbell posted a photo and statement on Twitter in support of Hussein. “I, Naomi Campbell, urge the Sudanese government to pardon rape victim Noura Hussein”, she wrote. For Campbell, pardoning Hussein would “show the world, that women who are brutally raped, are the real victims”. The Twitter picture shows Campbell holding up a sign with the hashtag #JusticeForNoura. As of May 18, there have been no updates on Hussein’s controversial sentence.
