Gary Lineker has recalled his favourite memories from World Cups past. The former England player responded to a tweet asking “what’s your greatest memory of a World Cup”. Lineker abruptly replied “scoring loads of goals”, refusing to add anything else.

The footballer was skipping over one of his more memorable World Cup moments. In 1990, England was playing Ireland in Group F with Lineker as captain. However, disaster struck during the all-important game. After being shoved by Ireland’s Kevin Moran, Lineker hit the ground. He was given a free kick but things didn’t look too good. Apparently, he pooped himself.
The incident was originally swept under the rug. But in recent years, the incident has come back to haunt him. But Lineker has taken it lightly, even joking about the incident on Twitter.

He has even acknowleged and explained the incident, as reported by The 42. “I was not very well. I was poorly at half-time and I carried on. A ball went down the left hand side and I did try to tackle someone, stretched, relaxed myself…”, he said. “I was very fortunate it rained that night… it was messy”.
Regardless, Lineker did score ten goals in two World Cups, which he can definitely be proud of.
Granted, and just a bunch of tap-ins, but in 2 World Cups it’s more than Messi and Ronaldo have managed between them and they’ve each played in 3. ????????♂️ https://t.co/Fgv4LIgBtn
