Inés Zorreguieta, sister of Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, has died at the age of 32. Her death was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Dutch government in a statement to La Nación.
Zorreguieta is said to have had a history of mental health struggles, and was found dead in her apartment in Almagro, Buenos Aires, on Wednesday, June 6.
One of seven children, she was the daughter of Jorge Zorreguieta, who served as Minister of Agriculture during the regime of Jorge Rafael Videla. His involvement in the violent regime prevented him from attending the marriage of his daughter Máxima in 2002. He died from cancer last year at the age of 89.
According to La Nación, Inés Zorreguieta previously worked for the UN in Panama, before returning to Argentina in 2012. She held a job in the Argentinian government since February 2016.
Queen Máxima is reported to have cancelled all official engagements and is preparing to fly out to Argentina.
