Model and activist Munroe Bergdorf was forced to walk away from a photoshoot today after being intimidated with racist and transphobic abuse from bystanders.

The model found herself under the public eye as the first transgender person to front a L'Oréal campaign in the UK. After the Daily Mail published an article reporting that she posted controversial comments to Facebook, the model was fired by the cosmetics company. It is reported that her Facebook post was a reaction to the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville and that she said "Honestly I don't have energy to talk about the racial violence of white people any more. Yes ALL white people".

Now she has spoken about how she was forced to walk away from a shoot in New York's Times Square after bystanders shouted racist and transphobic abuse.

The event comes just a day after Bergdorf spoke about how "statistically I only have four years left to live". A 2014 report by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights found that the average life expectancy of transwomen in the US is between 30 and 35.
