In a recent interview with Esquire, the legendary actor discussed some of his most renowned roles. When asked what it was like to be cast in 'Inception,' Caine recalled talking to director Christopher Nolen, "When I got the script of ‘Inception,’ I was a bit puzzled by it, and I said to him, ‘I don’t understand where the dream is,’” he said.
For those who don't remember, Caine appears at the end of the film to reunite Leonardo DiCaprio with his loved ones, though because of the spinning top, audiences were left wondering if it was all still a dream. Caine asked Nolen, “‘When is it the dream and when is it reality?’ He said, ‘Well, when you’re in the scene it’s reality.’”
Cue the very dramatic music, it turns out the ambiguous ending was in fact a happy one. Now it's time to re-watch 'Inception.'
