In response to a fan looking expressing excitement for her Oscars red carpet outfit, 'West Side Story' star Rachel Zegler wrote on her Instagram Story, "I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel." As the star of a film that is nominated at the awards show, fans were appalled that Zegler hadn't even been invited to the event. Many of her followers called out the Academy of Motion Picture Arts, and tweeted directly at them, for skipping over the actress in favor of presenters like DJ Khaled and athletes Shaun White and Tony Hawk. Even Russ Tamblyn, who played Riff in the earlier 1961 version of the musical film, tweeted on March 20: "@TheAcademy As a voting member and the original Riff, let me say: it’s your duty to find Rachel a seat at the Oscars. She STARS in #Westsidestory which is nominated across the board. When they say representation matters, this is what that means. Please do right by her.” 

Well, it worked. Zegler not only received an invite to attend the show, but also an invite to present.

Doja Cat -

Doja was performing a concert in Indianapolis on January 8 when an impatient fan wanted to cut the line, "so he exercised very poor judgment and told those around him in line he had a bomb in his backpack," said a Deputy Police Chief, as per TMZ.  Cops were called and though no explosives were found, the fan was still arrested for unrelated, outstanding warrants. It was a scary moment for all the other fans who'd waited in a long line to see Doja, and the fan's impatience backfired in the biggest way.

Taylor Swift -

With the re-recordings of Taylor Swift's old albums about her old exes, her fanbase went after John Mayer again. But this time Mayer responded. Screenshots of DMs from a Swiftie started circulating of one user sending, "f—k yourself you ugly b—h I hope you choke on something," and then "answer me you b—h," to which Mayer replied, "Hi Alondra, it’s John. I’ve been getting so many messages like these the past couple of days. I decided to choose your message at random to reply to. You can feel free to screen shot, share in any way you like if you want. I’m not upset, I just tend to have a curious mind and feel compelled to ask. Do you really hope that I die?"

The user then wrote back, "OMG WHAT i don’t want you to DIE" along with a 30-second voice note, and then just, “i’m sorry.” 

Mayer accepted the troll’s apology, who is reportedly only 15 years old, but tried to dig deeper. "It’s okay. I wanted to understand,” he wrote. “So it’s a fun thing people are doing without taking into account that I might see it and be affected by it?” The user replied that she thought he wouldn't see it or answer "since you are famous." She apologized again and he forgave her, but the user warned Mayer that Swifties will only come on stronger following the release of 'Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),' which she originally recorded in 2010 after their breakup.

Justin Bieber -

Justin Bieber had to set boundaries with his fans who decided to stake out his New York City apartment building. In a video posted to TikTok, the singer is seen arriving to the entrance of the building and addressing the Beliebers waiting there. “I hear you, I hear you. But this is my home. You know what I mean? This is where I live,” he reasoned. “And I don’t appreciate you guys being here. You know when you come home at the end of the night, and you want to relax? This is my space to do that. So I would appreciate it if you guys could leave.” In October 2020, Bieber ranted on Instagram about fans camping out outside his apartment: “How do you convince yourself it’s not completely inappropriate and disrespectful to wait outside my home to gawk, stare and take pictures as I walk into my apartment,” he asked, Page Six reports.

When Republican politician DeAnne Lorraine famously tweeted that Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion had "set the entire female gender back by 100 years with their disgusting and vile ‘WAP’ song," she was quick to feel the wrath of Stallion's fans. Lorraine says that fans of the rapper came after her with thousands of texts, calls, emails, and messages on social media. She alleges that some have even threatened her life. Stallion's recent song 'Thot S**t' seems to make reference to Lorraine, which has fired up her fans again.
