The irony award goes to anyone who got into a physical altercation over a shoe based on "unity." Prominent producer and singer Pharrell Williams collaborated with Adidas to make the limited-edition version of the NMD sneaker.

The line called "Hu," which is short for humans, represents, “Pharrell’s founding vision of energy, color, and spirituality as a unifying force between people,” according to the Adidas website.

Crowds of people internationally were getting in brawls in the street over the sneakers. In Singapore, reports said that because of waiting through the night without proper sanitation, shoppers resorted to physical violence to keep their place in line, according to The Playbook.

The extreme hype comes from the limited amount of pairs created. Attaining these small-batch shoes can not only be a huge status symbol for "sneakerheads," but also re-sell for a significant profit. What begins as $100 shoes can become $1,000 shoes due to high demand.

While Pharrell’s sneakers are certainly causing quite the stir, it may not be the kind he intended.
