From Pony O’s to Alligator Clips, hair clips have been a staple since their modern introduction back in 1972. However, chunky hair clips have never really made an impact on high fashion, until now. Hair clips hit the runway for fashion weeks in Milan, Paris, and New York this year. East-London designer Faustine Steinmetz hit London Fashion Week with arty hair clips that held up her models’ wild wigs. Eccentric fashion label Chromat featured neon-coloured hair clips during their swimwear show at New York Fashion Week. Meanwhile, Dolce & Gabbana showcased embellished, baroque-inspired barrettes in Italy.
As The Fader points out, there are plenty of brands and fashion houses clipping onto the trend. The Barrette 084 from Sylvain Le Hen takes an architectural style. It features metal diamond details and a glossy, mirrored finish. Meanwhile, the triangular Tasha Jaw Clips are another hit. The items are available in both marble and matte finishes.
