Fashion designer Donatella Versace has announced that her brand will go fur-free in the future. She broke the news in an interview with 1843 magazine. “Fur? I am out of that. I don’t want to kill animals to make fashion. It doesn’t feel right”, she explained. The profile also points out that Versace is looking for a new creative director to replace Donatella. “Yes I am Versace. But also Versace needs to mean change. And it needs to be an opportunity for others to express themselves”, Donatella declared.
She joins a handful of designers who are rejecting fur. As reported by Vogue, Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri explained that “Technology is now available that means you don't need to use fur. The alternatives are luxurious. There is just no need”. Tom Ford and Michael Kors have also banned fur from their collections.
