FOOD michelin star

Of all the food fads to sweep across Instagram feeds, this has to be one of the most unique. Alinea, restaurant with 3 Michelin stars in Chicago specializes in making edible balloons for dessert.

"Basically the making of the balloon is boiling a combination of sugars so that it has this elastic quality to it," Grant Achatz, owner of Alinea, told Bring Me. "We take a helium tank, dip it into that melted sugar and then slowly turn on the helium until it inflates."

The clear balloon floats on a string made from green apple, making the whole dessert completely edible.

"We like to trigger emotion. We really have the ultimate voice for pulling emotion out of people when they eat," Achatz said.

Balloons are known as a symbol of celebration, and to be able to eat one at the end of a delicious meal is an incredibly unique experience. This will undoubtedly be the fanciest balloon you've ever had.
