Following suit with other major restaurants, Taco Bell, the Mexican fast-food chain is becoming far healthier. Known for cheap tacos and 7-layer burritos, Taco Bell was never the picture of clean eating. However, with sharp changes to their ingredients and a push for more vegetarian items, the "live más" location is different than ever before.
Since 2008, Taco Bell has reduced their sodium usage by 15% across the menu. It got rid of artificial additives and began using natural alternatives instead. Taco Bell is also free of trans-fat, high-fructose corn syrup and unsustainable palm oil, according to NowThis.
While Taco Bell is becoming a healthier drive-thru option, this shouldn't encourage customers to go on an all gordita diet. “It is still a fast-food chain, so even the simplest ingredients are highly processed and full of preservatives. But they deserve credit for their efforts to offer the healthier choice for an occasional convenient meal,” Taco Bell’s dietitian and product developer, nutritionist Pamela Bonney explained.
Next time you are craving a quick bite on the road, Taco Bell may just be your healthiest choice.
