As reported by Munchies, Theresa Thomas paid a visit to Osteria Ottimo in Orland Park, Illinois and left with more than a full stomach.
“[Thomas] placed her left hand in her lap, picked up a fork with her right hand and touched the tower of layered pasta, meat, cheese and marinara sauce with the fork”, according to the lawsuit. When she pierced the lasagna with her fork, “warning, piping hot marinara sauce shot from the lasagna and onto Theresa’s left hand”. The squirt apparently did some serious damage, “scalding the skin and causing a large burn”.
The incident took place last December and Thomas has since “endured great pain, medical expenses, and mental anguish, a combination that has prevented her from returning to work”, Munchies reports. She is now seeking $50,000 in damages, roughly equivalent to £35,000. As of April 9, there has been no formal response from Osteria Ottimo regarding the fiery hot sauce and ongoing legal battle.
