At the Semex dairy conference in Glasgow, Scotland, experts gathered to discuss the recent decline in dairy sales. As lactose intolerance, veganism, and the rise of dairy alternatives grow, the panel discussed how to change the view of milk products for younger generations.
Dr. Judith Capper, a livestock sustainability consultant, took the stand saying,"There is a need in the dairy sector for some myth-busting. If consumers don’t buy our products – milk, cream, butter, cheese, etc. – we will not have a dairy industry in five to 10 years."
While the thought of dairy products disappearing in a decade sounds unimaginable for most, many experts worry that if the numbers continue as they are, the alternative milk market will end up completely replacing the current dairy market. As a way to counteract this trend, Trade body Dairy UK is launching a £1.2m dairy promotion campaign in public transportation platforms over the coming months.
International audiences wonder how this growing trend will impact national markets and individual breakfasts. Got nut milk?
