FOOD Restaurants

Picky eaters, look away. Sometimes you may wonder where your food has been before it landed on your plate. A new story from South Korea may shock you. The unidentified owner of a Chinese restaurant in Busan has been accused of reselling uneaten rice left by customers. The owner has apparently violated South Korea’s Food Sanitation Act, which bans the reselling of food.

The owner admits that the restaurant did reuse the bowls of rice. However, they say that it was legal since the bowls were “as they were”, as reported by Munchies. The owner reheated the bowls and put them in the next order. The customer who received that order took the owner to court.

Proceedings at the Busan District Court included the presentation of a video clip of the incident. As reported by Munchies, the court said it was too “hard to tell if the content was a leftover”. Charges were dropped against the accused owner and restaurant.
