FOOD Farm

NamaYasai is the best kept secret in East Sussex. It’s a small organic farm, which grows the finest Japanese fruit and vegetables. Robin Williams and Ikuko Suzuki are heads of the farm, supplying their prized ingredients to London restaurants. However, it’s at NamaYasai where the owners can escape the chaos of the capital. “We started by digging up our back lawn, and now we farm 60 acres”, Williams told Munchies. “We don’t use any pesticides or fertilisers, all vegetables are grown on land and picked the same day”, the owner clarified. “All weeds are welcome here”.

“Nama yasai” translates to “raw”, “give birth”, “field” and “vegetable” in Japanese. The farm lives up to his name, with six workers and a team of volunteers working hard between May and December. There’s over 50 varieties of vegetables, which fill boxes bound for London’s finest eateries. Restaurants that NamaYasai supply to include Hakkasan, The Ledbury, Koya City and Koya Soho>
