FOOD Chili peppers

Think you like spicy food? Well, this story may make you sweat. A 34-year old man was sent to the hospital with severe headaches and burns after consuming the "Carolina Reaper," also known as the hottest chili pepper in the world.

It can measure as high as 2.2 million SHU on the Scoville Scale, which is used to measure a food's level of spice. For comparison, this pepper is about 880 times spicier than a jalapeño—now that's hot.

The Carolina Reaper actually holds the Guinness World Record for being the spiciest pepper known to man. This pepper is so hot that even just touching it with your bare hands can cause severe burns. During a chili-eating competition in New York, the man was sent to the ER due to excruciatingly painful thunderclap headaches and neck pain, according to reports from the BMJ Medical Journal. After five weeks of monitoring and absolutely no contact with chili peppers, the patient was able to recover.

Sometimes there is such thing as too much spice.
