Intuitive eating is taking a radical new approach to your diet—eat like a regular human being and don't hate yourself while you do it. Truly groundbreaking.

The concept is based on the book, ‘Intuitive Eating Workbook: Ten Principles for Nourishing a Healthy Relationship with Food’ By Elyse Resch.

The first principles include rejecting the diet mentality of deprivation, and pushing away negative thoughts from “the food police” that you are less of a person if you eat that piece of cake.

Being active on a regular basis is highly recommended, but it is important to focus on the exercise giving you energy or making you feel good, rather than being stuck on how many calories you burn.

Other principles include “honoring” your hunger by eating enough to give you energy, so you aren’t tempted to overeat. You also need to focus on acknowledging when you’re full, and putting down the fork when it’s time.

The author also stresses that eating food that is satisfying to you will help you consume less of it, which will ensure that you respect your body rather than bash it.

According to Resch, the bottom line is, “You will not suddenly get a nutrient deficiency or gain weight from one snack, one meal, or one day of eating. It’s what you eat consistently over time that matters, progress not perfection is what counts.”
