Scrunchies are back in style!
90s babies unite!
Some may be unnerved or delighted to know that these fluffy hair ties are back. They were recently spotted on the red carpet, and Urban Outfitters has started selling satin and velvet scrunchies in their stores. Several celebrity A-listers such as Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez have been spotted wearing this old favorite.
That’s not all though! According to Women’s Wear Daily, one designer is putting a new twist on this tie by labeling them “hair clouds.” The rebranding was done by Line Sander Johansen, who is the founder of the Danish brand Comfort Objects, due to her mixed feelings about the term “scrunchie.”
Whatever you want to call them, there are some pros and cons to this 80s/90s throwback. Unlike hairbands made from traditional elastics, scrunchies are more gentle on the hair and are less likely to cause breakage. However, the accessory might not hold up as well for people with particularly fine or oily hair.
Love them or hate them, at least for now, scrunchies are back in business.
