Jeremiah and Isaiah Godby decided to embark on a more than 1,000 mi run from Parkland, FL to Washington, D.C. in order to protest gun violence. After the school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High, these brothers were moved to run for the cause.
"Sometimes you have to use extreme running to gain someone's attention," Jeremiah told NowThis.
The Sacramento, CA natives flew to Florida to embark on their social justice mission. The goal was to make the journey from Parkland to DC in time for the March For Our Lives event. The goal was to run the 1,060-mile distance in 26 days.
"Every mile that we took, we just had to find motivation, we had to find inspiration. Whether it's listening to videos, hearing encouragement from our friends and family, just keep talking to each other about [how] we're lucky to feel pain," Jeremiah said.
The brothers were inspired by their father, who ran across the country from San Francisco to New York in 1984 as a way to protest US policies in Central America.
By using running as a metaphor for activism, these marathon brothers are calling further attention to gun violence.
