LIFESTYLE Art

In an entirely immersive blend of art and technology, the first-ever virtual reality art gallery opened at the Synthesis Gallery in Berlin, Germany. From the renowned Swiss artist, Marc Lee, this virtual reality exhibit explores how digitalization has melded with both society and self.

A part of Lee's ‘Same but Different,’ ‘Non-place,’ and ‘Me, Myself & I,’ these virtual reality exhibits are making waves in the art world internationally. The gallery attendees use virtual reality to navigate an urban environment of their choosing. However, that environment is built entirely from social media posts. The experience is continually updated and changed based on Instagram and Twitter videos of the area.

"The visual representation is rendered into cubes that arise simultaneously to remind of the city landscape. The resulting image magnifies local and cultural differences and similarities," Fad Magazine reported. "Every experience is unique and never looks alike to any of the previous ones. An endless flow of countless stories. An open window into what is currently happening around the world in real time."

The Synthesis Gallery is running in Berlin until April 23, with a closing show taking place on April 22.
