LIFESTYLE Motherhood

Childbirth is a beautiful experience, however it is also a difficult one. From the swollen ankles to the constant need to urinate, and of course, the agonizing and often lengthy labor, expecting mothers have quite a bit to deal with. To make the process as smooth as a newborn baby's skin, there are a few things that we as a society can avoid asking. Check out this list of comments and phrases that you should never say to a pregnant woman:

1. Was it planned?
Unless an expecting mother opens up a dialogue about the way their future child was conceived, it's not your place to ask. Planned or unplanned, this is obviously happening.

2. At your age?
Being an older parent is becoming more and more of a norm. The relationship between a woman's age and pregnancy is between her and her doctor.

3. I was in labor for (X number of hours)
Hearing horror stories about someone else's labor isn't exactly soothing for expecting mothers.

4. Do you know who the father is?
This should hopefully go without saying, but in most cases, if someone wants you to know who impregnated them, you'll know. So please don't ask.

5. Are you going to keep it?
This is definitely the worst offense on the list. This is really never appropriate to ask as it is none of your business, and may be potentially a very emotional question for the pregnant woman in question.
