Antarctica has officially been named the first completely gay-friendly continent. Penguins will be waving the rainbow flag as the continent celebrates its first Pride Month this June.
The continent's largest research base, McMurdo Station, is at the forefront of the upcoming celebrations. 10 employees trekked into the dark, freezing terrain to hold their flag with pride.

“Why not take this photo and let people see that there’s queer representation — even at the end of the earth,” one resident, Shawn Waldron, told Metro. He explains that the social atmosphere in the research station makes LGBTQI people feel comfortable being themselves. Waldron says that though they’re on the most isolated continent in the world, they are able to feel connected to their peers.
