Early sightings - There is a report of an unidentified flying object as early as 1113. In his 2000 book 'Alien Agenda', journalist Jim Marrs details that religious pilgrims saw a glowing dragon emerge from the sea and disappear into the skies.

Early sightings - He also claims that in 1254, in St Albans, a scribe described a floating object in the sky. “There suddenly appeared in the sky a kind of large ship elegantly shaped, well equipped and of marvelous color”, the witness reportedly wrote.

Silvery objects in the sky - Marrs also tells how in 1290 friars in Byland Abbey wrote about "a flat, round shining silvery object" that flew ahead of them.

High street horrors - It has been reported that in 1942 a woman named Eileen Arnold saw an oval-shaped object in the sky, gliding slowly above the city rooftops as she walked along Cheltenham high street.

Off the radar - The same year, a man named Albert Lancaster said aliens abducted him. He was working at a radar site in Northumbria when glowing lights struck him and summoned him to space.

A Prime Minster's panic - Even Winston Churchill was worried about UFOs. According to records made public in 2010, the former Prime Minister ordered a UFO cover-up in 1947, saying that people’s reports must be hidden to prevent “mass panic”. Scary stuff.

The Flying Saucer Working Party? - In 1950, a flying saucer passed over Portsmouth. The event apparently led to the formation of the Flying Saucer Working Party, the Ministry of Defence’s first official study into UFOs.

In-flight action - RAF pilot James Salandin said he narrowly missed two UFOs when flying around Southend-on-Sea in 1954. He described the objects as being gold and silver.

Aliens attack London - Aliens apparently returned to London in July 1955. A saucer-shaped object was spotted on King Harold’s Way in Bexley. The 'Bexleyhealth UFO Encounter' has been well-documented and was reportedly witnessed by many.

A cross the stars - In the late 1960s, two policemen reportedly saw a cross-shaped object in the sky. They said that the object was pulsating for around 15 minutes. Critics said that the officers were simply observing Venus, based on similar sightings at the same time.

A nightly occurence - In 1971, two children reportedly saw a UFO in the sky near the coastal village of Muchalls, Scotland. The event was apparently repeated every night for several years.

Aliens go hiking - A UFO apparently crash-landed on Berwyn Mountain, Wales. The 1974 event coincided with an earthquake in the area.

Caught on camera? - In June 1976, a British Airways film taken during one of the Concorde's flights over southern England apparently showed some alien action. A UFO appeared to fly around the aircraft in the video.

Not the kids! -

The next year, a UFO allegedly crashed next to a primary school in Broad Haven, Wales. According to National Archive documents released about 'The Broad Haven Triangle', witnesses saw silver-suited creatures roam around while they played.

Into the woods - In 1979, a forestry worker said he was attacked by a UFO in West Lothian. It was reportedly the first time a UFO sighting became a criminal investigation in the UK.

Too old for the UFO - In a humorous report from 1983, a man claimed he was approached by aliens on Basingstoke Canal. Alfred Burtoo, 77, was apparently rejected for being “too old”.

Not photoshopped - In 1987, a retired policeman took a photo of what appears to be an alien. The image was reportedly reviewed at a Kodak laboratory, which claimed the photo wasn’t superimposed.

Was it the Russians? - In 1993, dozens of witnesses apparently spotted a triangular-shaped UFO speeding in the night sky. However, some believe the UFO was simply a Russian booster rocket, or even a police helicopter.

Aliens intercept Italy trip - Two years later, pilots on a commercial flight from Milan to Manchester reported seeing a supernatural object. In a following investigation, it was determined to be a fireball.

Above The Wash - In 1996, a UFO was reported above The Wash, a bay in East Anglia. The object was apparently seen by police officers and the public.

Road to Hollywood - In 2000, a woman from Derbyshire claimed to see a hovering object above a field. She reportedly sold her footage to a Hollywood producer.

Blown out of proportion? - In Torquay in 2004, a cigar-shaped object was seen floating in the sky. It turned out that the object was just a toy balloon set up by some local youths.

Beams and screams - In East Dunbartonshire in 2009, three people claimed they were hit by beams of yellow, green, and blue light. They claimed the lights lasted for around two minutes.

A threat approaches - In 2013, an Airbus pilot flying above Berkshire said he saw a rugby ball-shaped object head for the cockpit.

Quick thinking -

The pilot’s first instinct was to duck, avoiding the supernatural aircraft. The Independent reports that "Investigators have been unable to trace or established what the ‘bright silver rugby ball shaped’ object, which came within feet of the cockpit, was."
