Battle of Britain: youngest pilot dies - Geoffrey Wellum, the youngest pilot to fight in the Battle of Britain, passed away in his Cornwall home on Wednesday, at the age of 96. Take a look at these incredible photographs of one of the defining moments in British history.

Joined aged 18 - Geoffrey Wellum, pictured here to the left of former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, was the youngest pilot to participate in the Battle of Britain. He was 18-years-old when he joined the RAF in 1939.

Distinguished military career - For his service in the RAF, the pilot was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He said of his time there, "Looking at my life now, I had peaked at about 21 or 22. It was just lovely blokes, all together in Fighter Squadron" according to the BBC.
