Cappuccino - Sometimes a cappuccino can turn a day from bad to good. Unfortunately for Americans, the average price in Canada is $3.93, which is a whole dollar more than a similar caffeine fix up north.

Movie tickets - Seeing an international movie in Canada costs on average $13. A ticket to see the same film in the US costs an average of $14.46. Granted, Americans will probably get to see it first.

Bread - A fresh white 500 g loaf of bread in the US usually costs $3.22, but Canadians get it for $2.76.

Hotel rooms - Price of Travel provides average room rates across North America. The site reports that a hotel room in a major Canadian city costs an average of $261 per night, while the same conditions in the US go for around $384 on average.

Post-secondary education - According to Business Insider, an average year of tuition in the US is $13,865, whereas in Canada it's $5,974.

Utilities - Basic utilities (electricity, heating, cooling, water) for an 85 sq m apartment are an average of $140.16 a month in Canada, but $186 a month in the United States.

Beef - A beef found in Canada costs around $13.69 per kg, but Americans will pay $14.43 for the same amount. You may need to cross the border for your next burger.

Mortages - The yearly mortgage interest rate, at a fixed rate for 20 years, currently sits at an average of 3.05% for Canadians and at 4.23% for Americans.

Medicine - Though many already know about Canada's free healthcare at the point-of-care, Americans may not have realized that medicine is cheaper as well. For example, an EpiPen costs three times more in the US.

Tourist attractions - Using costs from Price of Travel, top tourist attractions in Canada's big cities cost an average of $23.10, whereas tourist attractions in the United States an average price around $43.16. That being said, it's partially due to the wide range of attractions available.

Internet - In Canada, a package of 60 mbps or more, with unlimited data and cable, will cost about $69.77 per month, while the same package in the States is about $74.41 per month.

Apples, oranges, and tomatoes - Weird, but true! Even though oranges don't grow in Canada, they're about one dollar cheaper than they are in the US. The same goes for apples and tomatoes.

Inexpensive restaurant meals - The cost of a casual restaurant meal in Canada is about $15, and the same meal costs Americans about a dollar more. It's not much, but it's something!

Rent - Renting an apartment in a Canadian city center costs an average of $1,207.08 per month for a one-bedroom and $1,952.30 for a three-bedroom. Similar places in the States cost an average of $1,507.51 and $2,436.33, respectively. Maybe it's time to consider some options up north?

Potatoes - Though we consume more fries, we also pay more for potatoes. A kilogram in Canada costs an average of $2.41, whereas the same amount in the US is $3.06.

Some new cars - A Volkswagen Golf or equivalent car costs an average of $23,000 for Canadians, while Americans spend a whopping $27,216.43. A Toyota Corolla or equivalent is $22,016.16 on average in Canada, while it's about $25,473.28 here.

Maple syrup - While this may seem counterintuitive, it's true! Although Canada is the world's largest producer of the sweet syrup, Statista reports that Ontario sees prices of $48.87 per gallon, whereas Maine and Vermont can get it for as low as $37.83.

Gas - A liter of gasoline in Canada costs an average of $1.16, but if you fill up in the US it'll cost you an average of $0.82 per liter. All the better for long road trips.

Cigarettes - Canada's government taxes the vice quite heavily. On average, a carton of cigarettes costs $13 in Canada and $8.80 in the US.
