The UK is home to incredible architecture.

With the arrival of World Architecture Day, it's time to take a look at the country's most incredible structures, as well as what makes them so special.

Dunmore Pineapple, Falkirk - This is one of the weirdest buildings in Scotland. It’s said that William Chambers designed the structure, which dates back to the 18th century.

Kings Cross Station, London - With a history stretching back to the 19th century, Kings Cross Station was restored in 2012 by John McAslan and Partners. The interior structure is inspired by a tree’s branches.

The Clyde Auditorium, Glasgow - Originally known as the Clyde Auditorium, this building is now known as The SEC Armadillo. It was designed by architects Fosters and Partners in 1997.

The Royal Pavilion, Brighton -

This Brighton building was built in three stages, blending Indian and British design. Apparently, Queen Victoria wasn’t a fan of the building, so she sold it to the town for £53,000.

The Convention Centre, Dublin - Kevin Roche is the Irish architect behind this amazing building. The Convention Centre is comprised of a brick cube and glass tube.

No 6 Slip, Kent - The No. 6 Slip is a crown jewel in the Chatham Historic Dockyard. The building’s interior made it one of the first wide-spanned metal structures in the world.

Sage Gateshead, Newcastle - This is another genius creation from Fosters and Partners. It’s an inventive concert venue, and looks best at sundown.

Westminster Abbey, London - Westminster Abbey was first built in the 960s, with additions in the 16th and 18th centuries. The abbey has influenced architects around the world, and is a must-see attraction in London.

The Royal Liver Building, Liverpool - This towering structure was officially completed in 1911, yet has a history dating back to 1850. Walter Aubrey Thomas is the building’s architect.

All Saints, London -

All Saints was formed from blending architecture and engineering. William Butterfield designed the building, which was built between 1850 and 1859.

Bedford Park, London - This suburban development is futuristic and forward-thinking. The houses were built back in the 16th and 17th centuries, while the deep gardens have become immensely popular in recent years.

British Library, London - The legendary Colin St John Wilson designed the British Library, which was established in 1973.

The Barbican Centre, London - This arts centre was designed by Chamberlain, Powell, and Bon. The building opened its doors in 1982.

St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel, London - George Gilbert Scott designed this building, originally known as the Midland Grand Hotel. The entire building is known as St Pancras Chambers.

Rievaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire - Before it was stormed by Henry VIII, Rievaulx was one of Britain’s most beautiful abbeys. Still, much of the structure still stands, and has influenced British architecture for nearly 500 years.

King’s Bench Walk, London -

This is a legendary street in Temple, London. The street has a long history, but now it mainly hosts barristers’ chambers.

The Peckwater Quadrangle, Oxford - This square in Oxford is known by students as “Peck”. Dean Aldrich designed this structure in the early 18th century, intending to house upper-class undergraduates.

Riverside Museum, Glasgow - The late Zaha Hadid designed this building, which features a 118-foot-tall zinc roof. It sits on the shore of the Clyde River in Glasgow.

This flax mill was constructed in the late 18th century. Charles Bage was the architect behind the operation, but the building is now derelict.
