New faces on the world's modern money
Alan Turing is the new face of the £50 note
© Public Domain/Getty Images
There's something funny about money. The usage of coins can be traced back to ancient times, while banknotes are works of art in themselves. Banknotes are often adorned with beautiful images and colors, which may change every decade or so. Notes are also often known for having portraits of famous and influential people.
As you may know, Queen Elizabeth's face is found on British Sterling coins and banknotes. Meanwhile, American dollars are known for their pictures of "dead Presidents," which has since become a slang term for money. However, this gallery will focus on the newer faces that are appearing on recent banknotes. Mathematician Alan Turing has been announced as the new face of the £50 note, while abolitionist Harriet Tubman is set to appear on American banknotes in the near future.
