The Academy Award-winning documentary 'Icarus' is available for streaming
Learn about the Russian Olympic doping scandal
This detailed and compelling documentary explored the Russian doping scandal that surrounded the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The country was initially banned from competing in the games altogether. However, individual athletes were then permitted to compete under the title, "Olympic Athletes From Russia," and were pictured under a neutral flag.
"Director Bryan Fogel’s bold gambit was this: to investigate doping in sports, Fogel (an amateur bike racer) would dope himself, observe the changes in his performance, and see if he could evade detection," the description of the documentary reads on Netflix. "In doing so, he was connected to a renegade Russian scientist, Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov, a pillar of his country's "anti-doping" program. Over dozens of Skype calls, urine samples, and badly administered hormone injections, Fogel and Rodchenkov grow closer despite shocking allegations that place Rodchenkov at the center of Russia's state-sponsored Olympic doping program."
Available for streaming on Netflix, 'Icarus,' is not just an incredible feat in investigative reporting, but a push to understand the human body's ability to endure.
