MOVIES films

A new film festival has put the spotlight on rising filmmakers in London. Playback Film Festival, set up by Dazed and the Institute of Contemporary Arts London, will feature 300 homegrown filmmakers. The free event runs from March 21 to 25, with screenings of eccentric and experimental films. From spoken word monologues to hand-drawn animation, the films tackle pretty much every nuance of modern life. There are dramas centred around homelessness in Calais, as well as comedies set in chicken shops, and psychedelic short films.

Dazed has also commissioned filmmakers to be spotlighted at the event. Diyala Muir, James Cooper, and Comfort Adeneye will all have their art showcased at the event. As well as screenings, the festival will feature masterclasses led by industry experts. There will be tips and tricks on scriptwriting, marketing, and getting commissioned.

The Playback Film Festival & Exhibition runs from March 21 to 25 at the ICA, London.
