MOVIES Marvel comics

Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, is the production company's first Muslim superhero. Now, the comic character is set to join the iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe.

First debuting in 2013, the Ms. Marvel comic follows a Pakistani-American girl who discovers that she has the power to change shape. Dealing with the burden of familial expectations and understanding her relationship with religion, Kamala Khan overcomes the pressure to become the superhero she was always destined to be.

“It was really important for me to portray Kamala as someone who is struggling with her faith,” G. Willow Wilson, one of the original creators of the Ms. Marvel character, said, according to NME. "It’s about the universal experience of all American teenagers, feeling kind of isolated and finding what they are through the lens of being a Muslim-American.”

While there are no official dates set, NME has stated that Marvel President Kevin Feige confirmed the upcoming film in an interview with the BBC, and writer Jac Shaeffer is hired for script development.
