MOVIES The muppets

Forget everything you once thought about 'The Muppets,' because the latest film of the franchise is anything but child-friendly. 'The Happytime Murders' stars Melissa McCarthy alongside the puppets—and they're up to no good. Featuring sex, drugs, and violence, this upcoming film delves into what happens when a brutal killer is after the puppet stars.

Directed by Brian Henson, the son of Muppets creator Jim Henson, the idea for this film has been stuck in development for over a decade and is now finally being released.

According to the trailer description, 'The Happytime Murders' is a "filthy comedy set in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist." Seeing your favorite characters in a whole new light, this film is "No Sesame. All Street."

Alongside McCarthy, the film will star Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, Elizabeth Banks, and veteran Muppets puppeteer, Bill Barretta.

Ready or not, 'The Happytime Murders' is coming to theaters August 17, 2018.
