Lily Allen has voiced her doubts about the impact of the #MeToo movement. In the interview with Vice, Allen was asked how #MeToo has “enacted a big amount of change”. Allen replied “Has it? Who’s been arrested? Who’s gone to jail?”.
The singer went on to explain, “if Harvey Weinstein had been accused of murdering 52 people, he would be in jail by now. He’s not”. It didn’t stop there, Allen also told Vice “It just doesn’t seem to be [taken] that serious. Nobody’s changing. Everybody’s going, ‘this has happened to me, this is really awful’, [but] what’s happening as a result?”. Allen even referenced the lack of accountability in her own social circles. “I’ve pulled them up on it, nobody’s done anything... none of my peers have picked them up on it either”, she said.
Lily Allen will release her new album ‘No Shame’ on June 8. The record is supported by singles ‘Higher’ and ‘Trigger Bang’ featuring Giggs.
