The Greek metal rock band that goes by the name Rotting Christ was arrested in Georgia, the eastern European country, on terrorism charges—allegedly because of their controversial name.

The Quietus published a statement from the band's frontman, Sakis Tolis, who claims that there was no standing for the group's arrest. When attempting to leave the country from the capital city of Tbilisi, airport officials allegedly, “had our passports and mobile phones taken away and [we] were [led] into a prison cell,” Tolis said.

The statement continues to explain how, after not being told the reason for the detainment, they began to suspect it had to do with their band's name. “Our lawyers informed us later that we are on a list of unwanted persons of national security that branded us as Satanists and therefore suspects of terrorism,” Tolis said.

After local activists, journalists, and promoters got involved, the band was released after 12 hours locked in a holding cell. The metal band was able to make their next scheduled gig on the tour. Rock on.
