Eilish's debut EP, 'Don't Smile at Me,' was released last August, and she has been touring her dreamy, electro-pop songs around the country. In an interview with Ssense, Eilish explains the inspiration behind her record's matter-of-fact title.
“My EP is called don't smile at me for a lot of reasons, but one of them would be when [someone tells you], ‘Smile. Why aren't you smiling? It's so much more beautiful when you smile.’ Everyone’s taught to smile,” Billie said. She then went on to explain that, “Girls are. ‘Look happy, look like you're having fun!’ I'm not gonna look like anybody except what I am. I want to impress myself.”
With an unapologetic take on the world and an ethereal voice that will highlight any mood, Billie Eilish is a definite artist to watch.
