The 50 most violent cities in the world - The Mexican NGO Seguridad, Justicia y Paz releases an annual list of the 50 most violent cities in the world. The study produced worrying findings, at least for Latin America, where 42 of the planet's most dangerous cities were found.

There were also four cities from the USA.

Cities on alert - Brazil is the country with the most cities in the ranking, standing for 17 out of the 50 most violent. The ranking was topped by Los Cabos in Mexico.

The study - The survey took into account the rate of murders per every 100,000 inhabitants in cities of 300,000 people or more, as well as media source and studies from NGOs and international bodies.

The study - Cities in warring nations, such as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan, were excluded from the study. The NGO stated that most violent deaths in these countries did not fall under the universal definition of murder, but instead war deaths, as defined by WHO.
