These cities will be the world's richest in 2025 - A study by management consulting firm McKinsey & Company has revealed the world's richest cities by 2025. The USA and China make up a significant presence. The projections are based on economic indicators such as predicted Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth and the rise in populations. 1. London - Apparently Brexit will not be an obstacle to the UK capital's growth as a major metropolis. McKinsey & Company estimates that by 2025 the population of metropolitan London will have swelled to 16 million citizens, up from from 14.8 million.

2. Paris - The French capital will also experience exponential growth. Currently, 11.8 million people live in Paris. In eight years' time that figure is expected to hit 12.8 million according to the report.

2. Paris - According to McKinsey & Company, Paris will generate $971 billion of global GDP by 2025, helped in part by the fact that the city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Presently it contributes $754 billion towards global GDP.

3. Randstad - The Randstad megalopis, consisting primarily of the four largest Dutch cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht) and their surrounding areas, is placed third in the survey.

3. Randstad - McKinsey & Company predicts that by 2025 this megalopis will be contributing around $462 billion towards global GDP, up from $364 billion.

4. Rhine-Ruhr (Dusseldorf) - The German city was included in the survey as part of another emerging financial hub, the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, which also embraces the cities of Cologne, Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg, Bochum, and Wuppertal.

4. Rhine-Ruhr - McKinsey & Company predicts that by 2025 the population of this region will have decreased from 11.2 million inhabitants to 11.1 million. However, the region's contribution to global GDP is forecast to reach $625 billion, up from $485 billion.

5. Istanbul - The survey identified this Turkish city as one enjoying rapid growth over the next eight years. Currently generating $188 billion of global GDP, by 2025 this figure will have reached $480 billion.

7. Chongqing - The population of this Chinese city and its neighbor Chengdu currently numbers 15.6 million inhabitants. By 2025 the figure will be more like 19.3 million.

8. Shanghai - Already recognized for its growth potential, this city has a of population of 22.3 million. By 2025, according to McKinsey & Company, that figure will have risen to 30.9 million.

9. Bohai (Beijing) - The Bohai Economic Ring embraces the Chinese cities of Beijing and Tianjin. Beijing alone has a population of 18.8 million, a figure that will reach 29.6 million by 2025. Its GDP, meanwhile, is projected to rise to $1 trillion, up from $206 billion.

9. Bohai (Tianjin) - Meanwhile, neighboring Tianjin will generate $624 billion towards global GDP by 2025, up from $129 billion. The city has a population of 11 million, which will reach nearly 15.1 million in eight years.

10. The Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region - This vast region encompasses the Chinese cities of Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Dongguan.

10. The Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region (Shenzhen) - The predicted figures for just two of these cities speak for themselves. By 2025, suggests McKinsey & Company, Shenzhen will be contributing $573 billion towards global GDP, up from $146 billion. Guangzhou, meanwhile, will generate $524 billion, up from $142 billion.

11. Japanese Megalopis/ Taiheiyō Belt (Tokyo) - A megalopolis in Japan, the Taiheiyō Belt includes the cities of Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. According to McKinsey & Company, Tokyo will generate $2.2 trillion towards global GDP by 2025, up from $1.8 trillion.

11. Japanese Megalopis/ Taiheiyō Belt (Osaka) - Osaka's global GDP growth will reach $914 billion, from $818 billion. Nagoya is expected to generate around $524 billion, up from $444 billion.
