TV Masterchef

>didir="ltr">‘Masterchef’ has been criticized by Malaysians on social media after one controversial episode. A contestant on the cooking show, Zaleha Kadir, had prepared chicken rendang and nasi lemak. It’s a beloved Malaysian dish that didn’t sit well with judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace. At the end of the episode, Kadir was eliminated from the show.

As BBC News reports, Wallace said “I like the rendang flavour”, but “the chicken skin isn't crispy. It can't be eaten and all the sauce is on the skin so I can't eat it”.

Malaysian viewers took to social media to respond to the judges' remarks. One viewer, Sujita Soorian, expressed her concern In a Facebook post. “Utter ridiculousness”, she wrote, “Crispy chicken rendang? Did the judges think that this was fish and chips? [...] they only know about food from their own culture”.

Malaysian journalist Jahabar Sadiq also spoke out on the judges. “They clearly weren't familiar with food from other parts of the world because if they were, they would have had the knowledge to know what real nasi lemak is”, she wrote, as reported by BBC News. Even political figures chimed in, with Prime Minister Najib Razak taking to Twitter to voice his opinion.

Perhaps Wallace and Torode can head over to Malaysia soon to amend their international relations.
