MP Nadine Dorries has criticised ‘Have I Got News For You’ for discrimination against women. Team captain Ian Hislop recently said female politicians were more reticent“ to appear on the show. The politician spoke with BBC News to respond to Hislop’s comments, detailing why the show doesn’t work for women.
“I just don't think 'Have I Got News For You' is a programme which lends itself to women feeling comfortable. I find it too vicious”, she said. Dorries also said the show was “too vicious, too abrasive… all about banter”. The MP noted that “women don't banter in that way”.
Dorries appeared on ‘Have I Got News For You’ in 2012. The same year, she joined ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’, where “debate is fair and the host is fair and it's not just for someone to score points off you by belittling you”.
